On April 23, 2026, the Architekturmuseum der TUM in Munich opened CONVIVIUM – Food Systems at the Limit, an exhibition addressing the global networks that keep the world fed, and the environmental and social strains these systems are now reaching. Curated by Andjelka Badnjar and Andres Lepik, the exhibition unfolds across twelve chapters, from high-tech Dutch greenhouses and salmon farming to Bavarian carp ponds and the war-disrupted grain fields of Ukraine.

Among these twelve chapters is Octopus Choreographies, tracing the labour and production chain of the small fishing community of Angeiras in northern Portugal, where octopus, alongside sea bass, pouting and shrimp, forms the backbone of local livelihoods and shapes its built environment. This section drew directly on the results of the work Fishing Architecture has developed in close collaboration with the fishing community since 2023, through a series of on-site workshops and other joint initiatives. The topic also took the stage during the opening symposium, where André Tavares and Diego Inglez de Souza came together for a conversation moderated by Stefan Pielmeier on small-scale fisheries and their role in food production, as an alternative to industrial fishing.
