Open Call for Workshop Participation
Join the Fishing Architecture research team for a three-day design workshop set in the fishing community of Angeiras. This event explores the intricate relationship between marine ecosystems, coastal architecture, and local fishing practices.
Angeiras is a small fishing community near Porto. With mounting ecological pressure affecting the marine ecosystems and tourism taking over the Atlantic coastline, architects face a dilemma when it comes to imagining the future of this place. What to design to support land-based activities when the balance of marine ecosystems can tolerate neither construction nor architecture? The outcome of this three-day workshop will consist of proposals addressing the sea-land continuum, with projects situated between water, rock, and sand. Three groups of students will be conducted by architects Joana Azevedo (un-icon), Max Kahlen (Dyvik Kahlen), and Francisco Adão da Fonseca (Pedrêz) and engage with the ongoing Fishing Architecture research project.
The workshop is part of the project SEALabHaus: Atlantic New Bauhaus Laboratory for Sustainable, Inclusive, and Beautiful Blue Tourism, Heritage, and Culture of the Sea, funded by Interreg Europe (EAPA_0029/2022).
The workshop runs under Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto continuous education program, and participants will be awarded 1 ECTS. Check out for more information.
